A Slap on the Wrist for Hotel Gansevoort turns into a COURT DATE!
Via an anonymous neighbor who spoke with Inspector Pacqua at the DEP:
A couple of weeks ago the hotel was issued its second violation for the intolerable noise it generates and a court date has been scheduled for May 11, 2005. Depending on what the judge says, a cease and desist may be issued or perhaps just another fine. The DEP says they are committed to building a case and agree that the hotel cannot get away with this. The Horatio Street Association will give the hotel the 30 days in which it promised to fix the problem at the community meeting, but if it ain’t fixed by then, we are prepared to fight. In some very sneaky ways… heh heh heh….

Recognizing our 30-day commitment to the community to remedy the fan noise, we wanted to provide you with an update on what Hotel Gansevoort is doing, as is it important to us to remain in good standing with the community. To that end, on Tuesday, May 6th – based on the advice of our engineering team — we will be implementing the first of two plans.
The first will be reducing the amount of intake power for the fan and replacing the blades (the earliest date possible based on the manufacturing schedule of the new blades). If by Wednesday this does not produce an acceptable level of noise reduction, we have already spent the money, ordered the parts and hired the labor for the second option. We will update you after the initial work on Tuesday and will notify the community should a second round of work be needed.
We thank you for your continued patience and ask that you bear with us this week as we make necessary improvements. Our goal is to rectify the problem so that we can all enjoy the neighborhood. Please feel free to call me if I may be of further assistance 212 660 6724.
