My opinion of the new BP remains great to date. I hear rumblings (via an anonymous commenter on the blog) that there is already some dicontent amongst former supporters of Scott Stringer. According to the anonymous commenter, Scott Stringer have renegued on his promise to community board reform. Specially by not appointing well-known Latino community leaders who worked very hard for his election. The Latino community of CB4 is very upset with him.

Anyone else have anything to say about our new Manhattan borough president?

There is going to be a community reception for Scott Stringer , the Manhattan Borough President-elect from 6-8 on January 17th at Industria (775 Washington Street, between West 12th and Jane). A good turnout will show our interest. It will also be a time to find out a lot about our new Borough President. I was pretty excited about his ‘reform the community board’ platform, and I bet you will be too. Wanna get educated before the meeting? Read more about his stance on the issues.

Tuesday night I had the opportunity to mix and mingle with Leslie Crocker Snyder and supporters at a “Late Night With Leslie” event for young professionals at exotica-luxe club CAIN. Leslie, in an impressively sexy black leather get-up fit right in with the ridiculously beautiful and well-dressed crowd of young socialites. After all, even if she is in her 60′s, she’s the young upstart running against 85-year old Robert Morgenthau for the position of Manhattan DA.

Snyder is pretty impressive – she was the first woman to try felony and homicides cases as an Assistant District Attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s office; she founded and led the Sex Crimes Prosecution Bureau, the first in the nation and a model throughout the country and she rewrote the rape laws and co-authored New York State’s Rape Shield Law, which protects rape victims who take the stand to testify.

She’s full of tenacity, spirit and verve, but it’s going to be a tough campaign to win. Robert Morgenthau, the incumbent has been in the position for over 30 years and he’s not going down without a fight. I liked her alot, and I love to see truly qualified women take positions traditionally reserved to men (if elected, Leslie would be the first female DA in Manhattan, I think) but I also tend to adhere to the old adage not to fix things that aren’t broken, and I don’t see anything broken…yet!
