<p>AH, no, the sky isn&#8217;t falling down &#8211; these are views of the scaffolding coming down at the corner of Horatio &#038; Hudson- which just makes the sky look so close and big and grand and open! </p>
<p>Oops, I guess we should have planted the tree beds on that block rather than skipping the scaffolding block.  How long had that scaffolding been there?  Anyone remember?  At least a few years&#8230;. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The CB2 landmarks committee heard an application to alter and/or demolish 1 Ninth Avenue at their hearing on Monday night. Before the meeting, there wasn&#8217;t a great deal of information available; the calendar simply read that  the owner wishes &#8220;to alter the facade, demolish the ne-story building [stable] and construct an addition.&#8221;   Given what&#8217;s been happening in the Meat Market recently, and given the Landmarks Preservation Commission&#8217;s current inclination to consider glass and steel facades perfectly appropriate for our historic districts, and that this alteration&#8217; could therefore be pretty serious (and that  &#8220;new addition&#8221; could be pretty big, a number of people showed up to express concern.</p>
<p>A report from one who attended:</p>
<p>&#8220;The presentation for the renovation of the 1-3 ..Ninth Ave property.. was actually a welcome relief from what I feared would go there.<br />
There is an orginal house then an added stable then a back building that was put up in the late 1990&#8242;s.. Evidently the whole property needs lots of work but they want to restore the house on outside and renovate it on inside, change  two  little windows(on south side) to larger, historically accurate ones</p>
<p>Part of the property was built out without a c of o beyond the property line and that will have to be changed..and another part(back building) will have to be torn down to be replaceded by a low standing shed This shed was called a no-style building by Landmarks which means they can tear it down..The committee objected to use of too much metal and encouraged use of masonry..but we approved the scale of it .. It is not like Theory .. also it is not a bar destination but a clothing store.. Thank God for that too..&#8221;</p>
